The Weavers Cottage is an original
18th Century loom shop. The rear of
the shop was lost during the 1970s and
restored to its former glory.
The Weavers Cottage is now a
museum that houses working hand
looms, allowing a true insight into a
bygone era. There are Victorian
kitchens, a clog shop and a tea room,
plus other parts of the building just
waiting to be investigated.
Just down the road is where the notorious murderous Margaret Allen (the last woman
hanged in Manchester) bludgeoned to death Nancy Chadwick with a hammer for no
apparent reason. Allen, known locally as Maggie Smith showed no emotion during her
trial. Maggie Allen was hanged at Strangeways Gaol on 12th January 1949.
This venue can be extremely eerie during the evening due to the models and
mannequins which are on display which can make for an interesting night!
An area of the investigation will be out in the open and inside the building can get quite
chilly in the evenings so please wrap up warm and wear suitable footwear.
